Just a little suggestion. If you add USD to coinbase you can transfer to GDAX and buy/sell using stop-limits and save a ton in fees. Coinbase fees are outrageous and you have to buy at market. Check out GDAX. It's the same company as coinbase but more options. Also, I suggest keeping all your crypto in a hardware wallet instead of exchanges.

I passed on bitcoin a few years ago and regret it but I find the topic fascinating. I have invested in Litecoin and Ethereum about 2 years ago and it is doing nicely. Wouldn't mind bitcoin returns obviously but I have enjoyed researching the topic and seeing where this technology can take us.

Interesting article (https://www.marketwatch.com/story/bitco ... 2017-12-11).

Here's a funny thought. If crypto currencies really disrupt the market and disrupt traditional safe havens like gold, US treasuries and even the VIXX, wouldn't it be interesting to see the effect on the market? For example, if we get a massive correction, maybe people would run to crypto currencies?

Maybe it's different and people will pour money into crypto currencies other than say the S&P500? Consider what effect that would have on stock prices.

Personally, I'm not too in tune with the crypto craze. In part because I think it's too new and in part because they sell like ETFs/stocks, but without any yield or actual ownership. What happens if a crypto coin becomes worth $1 million? The worth is only there, in my view, if someone is willing to purchase that coin for $1 million.

Interesting stuff...all these changes.

Best,

Me

I dabbled in Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin and other crypto-currencies in 2013, but the market was so volatile that I stopped after a few months when all crypto currencies crashed (BTC went from almost $1,200 down to ~$500) and I lost 60% of my initial investment and got out. When the price can fluctuate by 30+ percent in a day, it's definitely risky. Sure is fun to dabble in though as you can buy/sell very quickly and make good $...But you have to be prepared to lose, as is evidence by BTC hitting $18,000/coin and crashing to $14,000/coin in 1 day earlier this month.

There are many instances of bitcoins being "lost" or stolen on exchanges and multiple bitcoin exchanges have been shut down, including Mt.Gox and BTC-e (I'm sure there are others).
I invested a couple hundred bucks into BTC back in 2013 and used BTC-e to trade. As of 2017, the website was shut down and my remaining $ (thankfully, I only had maybe $100 there still) was gone when the owner of BTC-e was arrested in Russia. All funds in BTC-e were confiscated by the FBI and as of today, there are very few who have gotten their $ back.

I saw an article today that people were taking mortgages out on their house to invest in BTC. Seems like a foolish thing to do for something that's so volatile and can crash without reason.

I'm not saying don't give it a try, but do your research on BTC trading sites. Also, don't mortgage your house or risk financial ruin for a market that's still very new.

There is a major concern that there is a FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) factor that can be a major player in creating a bubble. Taking out a mortgage to invest in BTC is a whacky example.

I have to admit that my rather small exposure to BTC via ARKW (with about 9% of its holdings in BTC) is enough for me. ARKW has had a steady rise in value but unfortunately I am got into ARKW only recently so, of course, it will bubble on me. LOL

Ordered a machine to mine DASH to play with.

I figured that at least I would get heat for the winter out of it !

Bought a few dollars worth of bitcoin, etherium, and litecoin.

I had eGold years ago but the government shut them down .

I just started reading and thinking about putting some DASH in my Roth account. The IRS looks at it like it is stock.

I'm not really worried about crashes as i'm in this for the long term (1yr+). I've already made over 400% gains last year and i'm going all in with some monies I won't be needing. Oh the glory of back-to-back short tours.

Looking for 1000% gains for 2018. Maybe if that happens i'll shoot some cash over to Matt to keep tspcalc.com up forever!

Wow. BTC dropped 40% in a few days.

I'll bet all those geniuses who mortgaged their house, or who used credit to finance their BTC day trading are regretting their decision.
