Does anybody have an
idea about the affect rising interest rates will have on the G Fund? Will this be the new fund to invest in?

Theoretically, the G fund should increase relative to the amount the nominal interest rate increases. CDs and savings accounts should also be increasing as well. Good news for old timers who are looking for safer areas to park their money and don't want to dabble in bonds or equities.
