Exchange Traded Funds

Post by wwwtractor »

I recently invested in the fund below. I am interested in knowing in what funds others have invested for long term such as 10 years or more.

DVY ISHARES SELECT DIVIDEND ETF - Acquired 02/04/2014 up +6.54%

My current Roth investments are in metals and real estate as follows:

IAU 10%
IYR 48%
PAL 2%
PPLT 10%
RING 6%
SLV 24%

I plan to move more in the silver direction in the future.
These allocations were made to balance the TSP stock investments.

I am in the Fund I mostly because of the drop in the value of the dollar.

Retired 2017:C=60%, S=20% and I=20%

I typically do not invest in funds or ETFs but one fund that I currently am invested in is a Municipal Bond Fund (IIM).

Out of curiosity what was your decision to choose IAU over GLD? I've been considering taking a 10% position in gold as well.

Long term take a look at TGLDX if you have a growing gold interest.

I think it may have been the lower price per share but looking back it appears that IAU has a slightly higher rate of return possibly due to lower expenses.

In retrospect I could have bought these commission free through Fidelity Investments:

MSCI Global Gold Miners (RING)
MSCI Global Metals & Mining Producers (PICK)
MSCI Global Silver Miners (SLVP)

The Fed Chair Yellen came out of her FOMC meeting and started yapping to the press about her plan to start raising interest rates sooner than some people thought! She also said in essence that they were going to scrap the the unemployment rate and inflation thresholds they had previously indicated were the keys to whether or not to raise rates. (so much for the "Evans Rule")

She also said they would once again "taper" another $10B.

Here is a link to the actual statement that was released today:
