Etherium

Post by mmmmmbeer »

So.. a guy on another chat I frequent was telling me to throw $1k at Etherium back in March.. I balked.

That $1k would be over $8k today... :(

It's still pretry early in that virtual coin game. Maybe I throw a few K at it and not pay attention until I retire?

Those who 'abjure' violence can do so only because others are committing violence on their behalf.

I borrowed 30k from my tsp and bought bitcoin, eth and a few other cryptos. It's appreciated much faster than my tsp.

I don't get it...how exactly will you spend that bitcoin in the future?

You sell it for USD. Eventually, crypto currency will be accepted as a form of payment.

I was actually reading about this yesterday and will probably invest next month. I also noticed there are a few crypto currencies but etherium seems to be the next big thing

Thinking I may just throw 2k at it and forget it. See what happens down the road.

I'd heard Fidelity was going to be bringing it in soon. As soon as that can be legitimately bought mainstream in a portfolio it will go batsh!t crazy and the basement price will be gone.

I would only throw play money into crypto's, and not actually try and retirement plan with them.

They are designed to be currencies, not investment vehicles. A similar investment strategy would be investing money into Euros -- it doesn't make long term sense.

Cryptos ever increasing popularity make things interesting, but there's a lot of people out there using them as short-term investments (and have a lot of coins). As soon as those people think they will make enough money and dump them all, we'll see how the bitcoin markets react.

people have been saying since the DAO debacle that ethereum is a scam

virtual companies building virtual currencies that are virtually manipulated

i'd be willing to go against the grain with around 5-10% of my net worth, but as bitcoin sits at 2300 today it seems smarter to just watch it dump upwards of 50% first

I took loan from TSP year ago and I bought Bitcoin first and than Etherum about 7 months ago. Both cryptos appreciated much better than my tsp. I wish I went all in a year ago. I went in in three stages dollar cost avg. Both cryptocurrencies took off like a bullet. I wish I could put my whole TSP in it. With these kind of returns I could retire in couple years. BUY ETH or BTC on corrections!.

I'd like to discuss the big picture if anybody cares. I want to invest in blockchain technology and the development of its infrastructure, not digital currency. The good news is Ethereum probably has the best thing going in making blockchain tech available to everyday users and developers, the bad news is they aren't publicly traded or even a corporation. They are a crowdsourced foundation.

I don't like how much 2017 resembles the dot com bubble. People (millennials)(which I am) are pouring money into tech stocks that are valuated really high when considering corporate profits. Then you have Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, Tesla, Alphabet, Apple, etc. who are taking profits from selling their astronomically high shares and reinvesting in whatever the feel and the masses of investors go with them!

I am not doomsdaying (can I use that as a verb?), I think we are about to see another monster leap in tech. But we all remember blackberry right? I do believe in blockchain and digital currency, but what are the odds of BTC and ETH surviving the growth stage?

mmmmmbeer,
Whether you think buying Etherium is a good idea or not is up to you, but anything volatile needs constant attention, don't ignore it till retirement.

I have the coinbase app on my phone. You have to verify your identity with a photo of you holding your passport.
