When the dollar is down, the US stock market is up, right? The Euro is devaluing...shouldn't this add some possible strength to European stocks sold in Euros?

Maybe. Are you IFTing into the I Fund to capture that possibility? I'm not. And I doubt few will make that allocation. Bottom line? Exit I Fund.

To much risk for me, so no. Still a discussion point though.

Well, it can sit like this while the newbie continues to lose money or I can continue to urge him to get out of the I Fund.

Re: What to do with I fund allocation?
Cron I can’t urge him or anyone that is in or thinking of the I Fund to avoid it. But I will say this. If you have difficulties understanding the US markets, why on earth would anyone want to gamble on that crazy market, even if it is only a “little bit pregnant” allocation?
I say stick with what you know, and if you don’t know much, go with the area you know the most. The US is the most stable economy in the world. Can it be improved? Yes. Despite the perceptions of our often inefficient government and our weak economic disciplines, it is still better than all the other environments for your investments. No need making your life more stressful and complicated than it needs to be, is what I say.

Tommy, I hope you answer your wife better than this post when she asks: "Should I wear the green dress or the blue dress?"

I don't know cron, growing up with 3 sisters has taught me that the best answer to that question is just, "yes".

The only thing I can say to that Cron is, most of the time I can already tell which way my wife is leaning. So I will have the odds on my side. That is because I live with her long enough to read the signs. I can't say that about the I fund, so I can only answer to what I know, which isn't much.

Anyway Cron you might need to watch out, because looks like the market is starting to use your advice as a contrarian indicator. The I fund stared to turn-up at the same time you started your shun it rant.

Scb74 wrote:Newbie here. I have had a significant amount of my holdings (26%) in the I fund and have lost several K over the past few months. Should i wait this one out (continue taking a hit) or redistribute now? These are not fantasy funds. I was looking at tsp for the long term, but am now taking a closer look at it now (monthly/quarterly). Thanks!
Well I didn't bail on the I fund... in the green and beyond now. Thanks gut instinct.
Re: What to do with I fund allocation?
Glad to hear!!! I have been wondering what you decided to do. Since you first posted, the I Fund is up 10.48% (1/6 thru 2/27); not only did you see that gain, you avoided panic selling and locking in your “losses”. Good thing you went with your gut.

Re: What to do with I fund allocation?
Let me get this straight. With the share prices going so low, if I were to have, say, 100% of my funds in the G fund, wouldn't I want to move them INTO the S fund, and when the share prices go back up to $38 or similar, then pull it back OUT and into the G fund? Buy low, sell high, right?
