Question for the technician's and chartists - does anyone know if the markets ever go up in the week of or the few weeks after a fed rate hike? Should we all bail to the G fund before or is their hope for a market upturn based on history? Thanks

Stick with a seasonal strategy. Don't give in to knee-jerk reactions based on such miniscule events as a fed rate hike. Market timing does not work. Have a plan and stick with it. Your money will thank you.

I have to agree with Five-O. Try not to let the rate hike infuence you too much. Whatever dip that might come from it will surely be made up in the long run.

Depends. On what I'm not sure. Markets were getting pumped up with the QE and the lack of rate hikes, then one time rate didn't happen and markets sank. It was seen as the economy really isn't improving. Right now that seems to be where we are. Markets happy (probably very temporarily) if there is a rate hike because that means things are improving.

Based on what I have read recently.

I agree we shouldn't let things influence us too much. But for those of us who are very close to retirement we have to be much more careful. The long run isn't as long as it used to be. I can't afford to lose 40 percent like I did during the downturn in 2008/2009. That hurt.

My thoughts exactly. In fact I plan to be just as aggressive after retirement. To each his own, but I will not be on the sidelines leading up to or after retirement. Too much money to be made. Many will disagree and that's fine. TSP is but one part of my financial picture. Happy investing!
