Government Shutdown
So now we are in a Shutdown mode and no news when it will restart.
I'm wondering how the market is going to react or is it going to continue melting up?
Could there be a selloff or correction?
Time will tell.

Re: Government Shutdown
"We" are not really in a shut down. In fact, 83% of the federal government is not in a shut down. Do you really think the market cares much about 17% of federal workers not coming in on Monday morning?

Re: Government Shutdown
Based on Friday, I think the market approves of government shutdowns...less interference in the markets plus certainty & stability as politicians can't pass anything major.

During the 2013 shut down (13 days)... The market was basically even.VJoe571 wrote:So now we are in a Shutdown mode and no news when it will restart.

I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.

There is reason to worry (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/bu ... n/3002745/), but I'm not sure if the shutdown will be as painful as last time.

So are you getting furloughed?

The longer we stay on shutdown, the more I can power through big updates to TSPCalc. So write your congressman to keep the deadlock.

Re: Government Shutdown
ShutDown does not look to be effecting the Market and Wage Grade here at a Power Plant, so still on the job. Luck all.

Re: Government Shutdown
It looks like a settlement is at hand. I'm wondering if a selloff is next or profit taking after the President approves the bill? The market seems so unstable when you compare it to past rallies. There has to be a reversal, sooner or later.

Re: Government Shutdown
Unstable how? The media keeps spitting all sorts of nonsense about fire and brimstone when it comes to the Trump Admin and GOP, yet the market keeps on truckin'.

That is what I mean, the market keeps on truckin. For example, last week we had a 100 points drop and the next day, over 300 points gained.

The government shutdown the last time (2013) resulted in a 3.1% GAIN in the stock market. Where do you get your facts?
