Re: TRUMPS ECONOMY

We all should be thanking the Fed not Obama or Trump. Trump has less of an impact on the economy than the Congress does and Congress has less of an impact than the Fed does. As prudent investors we all should be cognitive of the role the government plays in the economy. We can make better investment...

Re: Is the sh*t starting to hit the fan?

No idea. Not really sure what's causing the slide. It can't interest rates. Market has priced what the Fed has been doing for months.

It may be uncertainty due to another potential government shut down and maybe some unexpected bad earnings reports.

Not from our end. Must've been a DoD wide filtering update that just got patched.

I'm late to the party, but I highly recommend Vanguard as well. I use them for the majority of my investments outside TSP as well.

Re: Feds Likely to Raise Rates - Yawn?

I agree. Either way it goes, I don't think that there will be much impact on the markets. I think that in the next few weeks, earnings reports, tax reform and the new 22 Dec budget deadline will play a bigger role. I think that, given history and this current Congress, that it will result in a good...

Re: Feds Likely to Raise Rates - Yawn?

I disagree that the Federal Reserve is a private institution. It is a public-private banking system. In my humble opinion, understanding how the Fed works is vital to understanding how the economy works. The article below summarizes some quick points about the Fed: https://www.pragcap.com/common-myt...

Re: Re-Activate Old Account Request Thread

I'm really trying to be patient here, but my monthly subscription payment came out again today... on my BANNED ACCOUNT. I've asked repeatedly for y'all to stop the subscription since I can't. Please contact me with some resolution so I don't have to pursue this via other avenues. I didn't do anythi...

Re: Feds Likely to Raise Rates - Yawn?

My personal opinion is that if the Fed continues to raise rates, it needs to be done slowly and consistently. Large and/or unexpected increases stresses the system. Like anything, it takes a while for the impact of increased rates to trickle through the economy.

Re: Monthly Standard Deviation

I wonder if tspcalc could do the following calculation.

I'd like to take a strategy with the highest return from 2004 to 2005 and see how it's performed from 2006 - 2017. Is that possible?

Re: Trump stimulus

Good points, skie and cashworth. I'm all for reducing the size of government and encouraging people to not be dependent on government. And I'm aware that while my Libertarian-style government won't happen overnight (if at all), we can at least make the nation's Safety Net realistic again. The Safet...

Ah, I did mistake your point. My apologies.
Just because its mandatory, does that mean we don't analyze its value?
I 100 percent agree on that.

Re: Trump stimulus

Lets start by rethinking what is mandatory spending. The only thing mandatory is interest on the debt, everything else can be changed by a vote. Big politics have us all convinced that we MUST pay for these entitlements via taxes, but there is no discussion on why healthcare cost is 15% GDP? I'm no...

Re: Trump stimulus

These are my personal opinions and they aren't backed up by any hard science or economics; just observations and information gleaned from years of reading. Both of the Senate's and House's tax plan do not do enough in either tax cuts or helping with revenue. Each bill in its current form increases t...

Re: Trump stimulus

1. Debt.
2. Reduce benefits.
3. NAFTA won't get dropped, but the markets would respond negatively if the probability increased to greater than 50 percent I would wager.
