Myself (and many friends) opened the roth ira under our names but its for the kids college (or wedding, or first hous...

Re: TSP versus IRA
My understanding is that some will roll their tsp to an IRA for better control of their funds/more investing options/possibly better estate planning options. There are no "obvious" reasons for inflation and growth as both can be planned for it. You can lose your shirt in both or gain nicel...

Re: Long Term Care Insurance question
sorry I don't know the answer, but I too live in WA state; and my coworkers and I contacted the state when this was first announced, and as Federal employees we are exempt from the requirement. You probably already know that though

Re: Converting Traditional IRA to Roth IRA?
Unfortunately you can't convert Traditional TSP money to Roth TSP. You can only change where your future TSP contributions go. Roth TSP money IS subject to RMDs. Roth IRAs are NOT subject to RMDs. If you're converting Traditional IRA money to a Roth IRA, just don’t convert any more than you can pay...

Re: 2022 COLA, SS and CSRS get more than FERS
shoot; as soon as I hit my 30 years at 58.5 i'm retiring. I have a little over 13 years left I have two soon to be 8 year olds as well; just takes planning and a bit of hope decent returns continue. And I don't max out my tsp either.

Re: What am I missing
congrats! you are doing quite well and will retire happy it looks. You can also take the social security supplement early, if you wanted that is. Our pension portion is roughly 1% x Years of Service x High 3; but the longer you work over 30 years the 1% becomes 1.1% at some point, I forget.
