New to the site & seasonal investing

Post by Brandon28 »

Greetings all, just wanted to say hello and what a great resource this website is. I'm bummed I didn't find out about it much earlier in my career. I've been building my TSP for the last 16 years, however I'm new to the seasonal strategy. Shout out to Aitrus for the seasonal musings thread - wow, what a treasure trove of info.

I've devoted 2020 to the year of the seasonal strategy and have my alerts set up on TSP Calc since Jan 1st. So far so good...I look forward to the ride. Cheers!

Welcome!

While I personally follow seasonal, I just want to give a shout out to other strategies discussed on this website. We do have a few technical traders. And some who appear to be guessing.

Hey Brandon28, welcome to the party. As mjedlin66 mentioned, you will find all kinds of folks here. It's hard to go wrong with most of the seasonal strategies you'll hear about. I personally use the seasonal platform as a general guide but also make some moves based on current events and other data points. Basically I'm a semi-technical guesser. I enjoy playing in the streets of risk so I would not recommend you follow me. But have fun with it and remember, it's only a loss if you sell at a loss!

You're not the only one who regrets not paying closer attention to their TSP earlier in their career. I would venture to guess that billions of possible gains are never realized because, like you and me, way too many folks do not become knowledgeable about their TSP as they should.

Fortunately for my daughter who is a government employee, I've been able to share what I've learned and have been managing her TSP account. She is going to have a nice amount of money to retire on!!

Brandon, it doesn't take too many years of 20-40% returns to build from what you have now. Soooo....good thing you're on it now; you have time to grow your account significantly.

Welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome all.

Mjedlin - Nice job on TSPcalc, love the site, I'm a proud supporter.

Jlozano - I might give fantasy TSP a shot since I've retired from all other fantasy sports lol

Notsogood - That's awesome you're setting up your daughter, she'll thank you some day. Luckily my parents always pounded in the importance of saving too so I contributed all these years, just wasn't aggressive enough early on.
