Just wanted to get some input/ideas on how to position my TSP for my last 6 years of service? I currently have 100 % invested in the S fund. Though I might switch it to G fund this week and see how the inauguration plays out. My original plan was to leave my balance in the S fund for the next 4 years and then switch it to the G fund for my last two years. I hate to lose the possible gains in those two years but Im worried about any major market downturn which I won't have time to regain my losses due to only having 2 years to make it up.

Even though you may retire in 6 years, there's no reason your funds can't stay invested, either in the TSP or elsewhere. Which means that you probably have more than 2 years to make up any downturn.

Agreed. However, I would try to stay away from 100% G Fund during the last 2 years or while in retirement. It simply doesn't earn enough to keep up with inflation. The F Fund is a better choice, and you can place something like 25% in S or C to keep the earnings high enough that you not only beat inflation, but give yourself a buffer for the long term.
