This. Let's all agree to invest more and learn as much as we can about maximizing long term gains (early crowd) and minimizing short term loss (retired crowd).

Yeah..... riiigggghht.. I'm gonna haveta sorta... disagree with you there Bob...

I want to know how others in my same station are doing... it's in my nature to strive and goal.. sometimes I'm ahead.. sometimes I'm behind.. and yes in the end the race is only with myself, but I need something to compare and chase or whatever..

I don't want a participation ribbon! I gotta place!

Age: 35
FERS, AF IT Specialist
GS salary level: 13/5 (Going to Step 6 in November)
Current TSP balance: $51.5K
Contributions: 10% (5% Roth, 5% trad agency match)
Number of Years until PLANNED retirement: 21 (MRA)
Years in Federal Service: 7 in November (excluding my military buyback)
Roth IRA: $10.5K

Didn't know much when I started out as fed, sat in G for years; found this site last October and started following a seasonal strategy in November and resulted in first 'respectable' annual gain of 5%; So far, up 6.6% this year. PCSing to Germany in July and looking to start maxing out my ROTH contributions within the next few years.
Daily Seasonal Since: August 23, 2017
Current Strategy: 16198 / 7.21σ

Current TSP balance: $99.9k (hoping today is the day I tip into 100k)

Been trying to get back into an active TSP discussion, and since my friends at work don't really seem that interested, thought I'd give this a shot. Have about 20k in debt (student loan), with more expected shortly (new car), plus mortgage.

I'll update.

Went from $15k last year in my TSP to $27k now. Now aged 24, and about to transfer from AD to the ANG and learn a new trade, then go back to school full-time. Should be about $30k by the time I separate. Left alone, that should turn into about $358k by the time I'm 67, which will give me a 4% withdrawal of ~14k. Not bad for 3 years of saving.

Plan on transferring to the BRS in the Guard, getting that sweet government match, and seeing if I want to do 20+ years or not.

Good job man. That amount of savings isn't easy to do.

What's BRS?

Blended Retirement System. Do your research FIRST! Its not all that its cracked up to be. Remember that when the government creates a program like this it benefits the government, not the user.

Age: 42
GG salary level: 13/02 Electronics Engineer (7+ years DOD)
Current TSP balance: Sad state it is....but life happens!
Number of Years until PLANNED retirement: at least 25

Well life happens in spite of everything we try to plan for, work toward, and hope for. After losing my job about 9-10 years ago and being laid off for a year, I basically had to move my family across the country from PA to TX and start from scratch (literally). I fortunately got into the PALACE ACQUIRE program which got my foot in the door. It is a 3 year program with grade increases every year. Started at GG-7 then ended up GG-12. Then got a new position as a GG13. Through all that we had a huge medical issue with my daughter that will be a life long struggle (she is Type 1 Diabetic) which really hit us hard both emotionally and financially. Plus other medical issues across the family. Weird how things happen in clusters it seems. We however kept our heads up and are doing much better now; at least until my oldest starts college in the Fall of 2018. Not ready for that! But for me it has always been about family and making sure my kids have a roof over their heads, food in their bellies, good education, and all the love we can give them. If I can manage those things then I am doing great. So when all seems dark in gloomy I just say to my self "Keep moving forward".

Also, you are never ever going to find true happiness and fulfillment if you are always comparing yourself to other people. It doesn't work and will be a never ending struggle because there is always going to be someone out there that has more than you. Be happy with what you have and most importantly, love and cherish every moment with the ones you love!! True human happiness does not come from things or wealth but from the human interactions that we seem to be pushing aside in our society.

GCLAPPER- wow...I was truly touched by your comments and honesty and felt compelled to reply to you in absolute agreement and applaud your sincerity in true appreciation of wealth, love and happiness. So often we forget the real value of having Gods gift of life. I have two small children (baby girl is 6 and my little man is 9) and tell you that I thank God every day for those two miracles. My wife and I had trouble having kids and were incredibly lucky to have been blessed with two beautiful kids after years and years of trying.

You have the right attitude and mindset and regardless of your portfolio, my portfolio or the person with the largest portfolio, you my brother are one of the wealthiest alive and never forget that!

Thanks for sharing
