Upcoming mutual fund window

Post by Bubba »

Dear all,

Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one stoked for the upcoming mutual fund window. Nevertheless, I think some of you might find the following interesting.

The company that will provide us the service is called Alight (got it from the FRTIB minutes from November).

General info:
https://alight.com/research-insights/se ... e-services

Directions on how to use it:
https://www.alightfinancialsolutions.co ... ochure.pdf

General info website:
https://www.alightfinancialsolutions.com/home.htm

The no fee fund list:
https://www.alightfinancialsolutions.co ... .pdf?ts=79
hint: not much useful here. Sadly. Maybe some suggestions from members here would be interesting. I only like one Baron fund. BREIX.

Here is the full list:
https://www.alightfinancialsolutions.co ... pdf?ts=219

Finally, here are the general costs:

The fees are really, REALLY high. It's so odd given that in my own brokerage half these things are free and I can switch between funds monthly. No, here the switch is every 3 to 6 months and if I want to go the ETF/stock route that costs per purchase (assuming the TSP will allow for the purchase of ETFs/stocks).

I'm a bit shocked that the TSP board chose Alight instead of Fidelity, Schwab or Vanguard or some other, reputable brokerage. I guess this was expected.

Best,

Bubba

P.S. We still have to see what the TSP negotiated with Alight, but I'm not holding my breath.

Funny, again I'm the only one posting here. I hope this is interesting to at least one other person on the forum. :)

As an added note, check out the reviews on Alight:

We have "much" to look forward to when we get that window...

Interesting. A lot of negative reviews. Will they be handling the TSP? Will this increased our cost structure? What are your take away from these changes?
I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.

I think the main impact is that investing outside the current funds (S, C, etc.) will be expensive. I'm not sure why the FRTIB made such a horrible decision. I do have a tiny sliver of hope that they will have given us a better deal, but that sliver is very, very small. Rotating funds seasonally can be very interesting, but the TSP made this much more difficult.
