Unlimited IFT?
Are lawmakers wheeling and dealing to make unlimited IFTies available again (per a recent comment in the Anticipation topic)?

Re: Unlimited IFT?
I believe the new "mutual fund window" will allow unlimited IFTs. But I think the 2+G IFT rule will remain in effect for the TSP funds.ProduceMan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 10:44 am Are lawmakers wheeling and dealing to make unlimited IFTies available again (per a recent comment in the Anticipation topic)?

I read somewhere that there would be unlimited moves too, but I'm a bit weary of that'll mean. Does that mean that we can move unlimited only within ETFs (my first choice), mutual funds or does it mean that we can buy unlimited funds or does it mean that you have unlimited moves within a set criteria? Also, if its unlimited, does that mean free or do you pay for as many "limitations" as you "like?" I guess we'll see next year.mjedlin66 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 3:32 pmI believe the new "mutual fund window" will allow unlimited IFTs. Re: Unlimited IFT?
They think that we are 'dumb money', so they feel obligated to protect us from ourselves.
Re: Unlimited IFT?
Probably true but TSP wasn't meant for day trading...we got the limits because of a some that abused the system making an excessive number of trades.
Re: Unlimited IFT?
I am curious if the changes will take away money making opportunities for the average government investor that have a hard enough time choosing from what is available now. And even for the seasoned investor, more choices means it will dilute any advantage of having a limited amount of funds and using tools like TSPCalc.

In a way I agree, but in a way I don't.alder wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 9:51 am I am curious if the changes will take away money making opportunities for the average government investor that have a hard enough time choosing from what is available now. I agree that the average investor is so ill-educated on basic investing that they will become even more confused. I still get asked at work about the differences between the core Funds and the L Funds, with the questioner having a hard time believing that the L Funds are made up of the other funds. They think that the L funds are like a mutual fund somehow.
The way I disagree is that the tools we have with TSPCalc should continue to function just fine. TSPCalc already doesn't include the use of the L Funds, so adding more things to the list of investing options that TSPCalc doesn't consider won't change how well the site functions for the core Funds. Since TSPCalc looks at just the core Funds, adding mutual funds won't make a difference.
The only way that TSPCalc could be rendered less useful is if the TSP Board changed the current IFT limitation structure. TSPCalc is formulated to follow the current structure, so if that were changed then the whole program (except the dataset of historical returns) would have to be reworked to include the new IFT limitations, whatever those might be. As it is, the only thing I've heard regarding IFT changes is related strictly to the mutual funds, not the core or L Funds.
