This morning I was watching the news, whereas they were talking to an internet security expert about the risks of websites like TikTok, and how some Chinese hackers have already been using people's info on there to go after bank accounts & such. I don't have a TikTok account, but my kids do, so I'm guessing the Chinese already know a lot about our family & household.
Anyway, it got to thinking about our TSP accounts and how hacking TSP must like the Holy Grail to these people. Probably like a lot of folks here, I don't even remember the last time that I changed my password.
Questions:
What happens if my account does get hacked? Is the government going to reimburse me? What happens if there was to be a mass attack cleaning out several folks accounts? Is there any additional risk to accessing my account via my phone? Google obviously knows my password, as Chrome automatically enters my password every time I log on. What if Google gets hacked? T-Mobile sends me the security code every time I log on. What if T-Mobile gets hacked? What else, other than changing passwords, can we be doing to secure our accounts???
TSP account security?

Re: TSP account security?
We are way past that. OPM got hacked a few years ago so the Russians/Chinese/North Koreans already have federal employee data. Ever heard of the "mosaic effect" (https://www.route-fifty.com/cybersecuri ... %20intent.)? Mix that up with AI/ML and we're goners.jimcasada wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 12:27 pm

It is a safe assumption that there is more than enough stolen information for sale to the highest bidder on the dark web about us--from 100's of other cyber sites breaches the past 25 years--to piece together anything "they" (i.e. hostile govts and black hatters) need to peer deeply and cause massive damage to most anyone's financial, reputational, and legal status--if they wanted to.
The only solace is that most of us here are not important and/or wealthy enough to warrant that attention from the bad guys.
Otherwise just keep changing your passwords--or drop everything, throw away your laptop/phone/TV and live in a log cabin for the next 50 years.
