First comparison of old vs new I Fund
I saw an article posted on the TSPCalc Facebook group this morning comparing the YTD performance of the I Fund's new tracking index vs the old EFA. This is the first time I've seen any such comparison done on the new index's performance.
Short version: It's not an improvement. The old EFA returned 7.59% by the end of May, while the new index created just for use in TSP returned 5.60%.

Re: First comparison of old vs new I Fund
Actually, you can see the full side by side comparison for all years possible by MSCI by going here https://app2-nv.msci.com/products/index-data-search/. You can compare the data...although the new index has very few years available...which is super annoying!
This doesn't compare you directly to the EAFE index, but it does show longer term info without you having to calculate anything. https://www.msci.com/documents/10199/79 ... 9ff978d508
Enjoy!

Re: First comparison of old vs new I Fund
I guessing the main reason they're doing this is to keep our TSP money out of anything in China.
Re: First comparison of old vs new I Fund
They're trying to include emerging markets because over time they have done better than only the EAFE index. The reason China is out is pure political. Oh well.
