Staying in the G
I put all of my TSP in the G fund about 2 months ago when the the market started going crazy with the oil problems. I am planning on retiring in 8 months and I am not moving my money out until I see an upswing. I may not have made a lot but at least I didn't lose.

I posted this earlier this week:
I agree these prices appear low and buying them now would be wise for longer term dollar cost averaging. My opinion is the market is still uncertain with nothing positive to get it moving. After looking at the chart Dr. Pain put up about the depression, I'm going to wait for the turn around to get back in. We do not know where the bottom is and I would rather risk missing a short run up instead of losing 5+% in a day. Prices are all relative, what looks low today maybe high tomorrow... Good Luck to everyone!

You need to look at your long-term trading program again. Retirement from federal service does not mean you sit before the wood stove all day or just fish for small fry. You can, and should work at increasing your net worth. And the money you currently have in your TSP account can grow as well. So my notion is not keeping it "safe" in the G Fund. Pretend instead you are Warren Buffett. Is he safe in the G? Neither should you be. Also, I personally am opposed to the idea of rolling the TSP into an annuity program. I would urge you to examine how to transfer your account into a self-directed rollover IRA brokerage account. I like Bank of America, because you might not have to pay transfer fees if you have enough in your account. That would be like the old TSP days, wouldn't it? And there's the world of Exchange Traded Funds to consider, and dividend paying stocks that right now look very attractive. So get out of your rocking chair and re-engage your thinking programs. Warp factor Six Mr. Scott! We've got a lot of thinking to do. Do you want to exhaust your TSP account value through monthly withdrawals or do you want it to keep growing when you're 102? I want it to keep growing, and make it part of my inter-generational wealth transfer program. But that happens when I'm 125. Long time to grow and accumulate in value. Hope yours does the same. Mind set. Mind set. Don't get caught in a mind set. Think creatively about your future.
