Re: Just taking a poll about the shutdown.
All Law enforcement are being paid, with overtime, and we are immune to the shutdown, as we still report to work. Also we have a reserve treasury of over 20 billion that keeps us far out of reach of a potential shutdown. I also agree with the shutdown as well.
Sadly, some of the family works at the IRS and in the Court system, all are furloughed without pay.

DoD here so we are not affected and we get a paycheck for now. I voted for the second and fourth line.
Re: Just taking a poll about the shutdown.
The 13th Amendment guarantees those that work will be paid, eventually. Those that do not work are not guaranteed, though there has been precedent.
Re: Just taking a poll about the shutdown.
What seems the most interesting is we have a 108 votes for being out of work, 33 not out of work, and 21 working without pay. A total of 162 votes.
But, 223 total votes saying they agree with the shutdown for funding.
I suppose I should have made it clear you can pick two. So you can show your current work situation and your opinion of the shutdown.

A business that doesn't pay it's employees isn't in violation of the 13th amendment. The Supreme Court has viewed this amendment as a denial of rights such as citizenship, I.E. the right to vote and own property.
The Supreme Court has not really expanded this. Even the military draft doesn't violate the 13th amendment and I can't think of a closer example of involuntary servitude.

I will say at first I thought I could only pick one but after reading the instructions more carefully it stated you could pick 2.ArrieS wrote:What seems the most interesting is we have a 108 votes for being out of work, 33 not out of work, and 21 working without pay. A total of 162 votes.

Good poll by the way.

as one of the "have to work, not getting paid" folk... it really sucks when they vote to back pay furloughed people, and they basically got a two week vacation... i wish they would add however many days i have to work during a shutdown to my annual leave or some other category of leave.

Is it weird that since the shutdown the market has behaved very bullish?

Did you mean to say "will eventually be back paid after a budget is signed" or were you being facetious?Billionair wrote:All Law enforcement are being paid, with overtime, and we are immune to the shutdown, as we still report to work.

I was being straight I think, I may have worded that poorly. We're being paid as normal, overtime as normal, and having a cocktail party tomorrow. I couldn't tell ya that a government shutdown was affecting anyone. LE is different in DHS though outside of the rest of our people.michigande wrote:Did you mean to say "will eventually be back paid after a budget is signed" or were you being facetious?Billionair wrote:All Law enforcement are being paid, with overtime, and we are immune to the shutdown, as we still report to work.

Wonder if furloughed workers who agree with the shutdown will feel the same way next week when their paycheck doesn't arrive.

I can only speak for myself, but yup.Tessbess wrote:Wonder if furloughed workers who agree with the shutdown will feel the same way next week when their paycheck doesn't arrive.

Wonder if the results will change the longer folks have to go without pay. Suggest resetting the poll in a couple weeks.
