If I may, and I think I asked you this before ... when were you in Iraq? You had a few tours there right?

I was up in northern Iraq (Kirkuk) between Oct. 2004- June 2005. Just did the one tour there, but before and after I was all over the middle east; I was also in Saudi, Yemen, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar.

Roger that - I had my time in Qatar and in Iraq; around the green zone for most of my tour in 2003-2004.

Good to see you around and good luck on your upcoming move. 8-)

Congrats IRQVET!...I just recently bumped up to a GS11 Step 2 this year...loving the pay check for sure! Better than I ever hoped for, after retiring from the Air Force in 2014 I was only hoping to make it to a GS9 but to be an 11 for me is like a god send!

Cheers!

After many years in DoD I came to the conclusion that promotions happen to people who are in the right place at the right time.

The folks who can fake their way into promotions, taking credit for others' work or misbehave...those people will advance very quickly, but they will hit a ceiling and never get past that plateau for the rest of their career. You'll see that competence in many of these bureaucracies is rare, and if you can demonstrate it long enough and to the right people, you'll stand out and go far.

Also, I have a question for the some of the folks who took multiple temp promotions: You're only eligible for one 120-day temp promotion per year, right? Is that in a calendar year, or is it a year starting from the START of your previous 120 day promotion, or is it a year starting from the END of your previous 120 promotion?

For example: If I had a 120 temp promotion from October to February, would I be eligible to take another temp promotion in October? Or would I have to wait until January 1st, or February?
