IFT

Post by VJoe571 »

Question: If I IFT today, Monday (Columbus Holiday), the change won't go into effect until Tuesday after the market is closed. True or False?

True. Treat most federal holidays when the TSP is closed as the same as a weekend. Sometimes the market will be open for half a day instead of a whole day (Christmas Eve, day after Thanksgiving, etc). However, the market is open today (Columbus Day). Tuesday's end of day numbers for the Funds will reflect all trading that takes place today and tomorrow, and IFTs will process tomorrow at end of day.

Here's a list of holidays when the market is closed all day, and open until 1pm.

If I would have IFT the Friday prior to the Columbus Holiday (Monday), when would the IFT take effect? Monday or Tuesday?

Same answer as Aitrus provided above. If you had entered the IFT by 11:59 am eastern time last Friday then it would have taken effect at the close last Friday. Any time after that up until 11:59 am tomorrow (Tuesday), the IFT will take effect at the close tomorrow (Tuesday). So there's a 96-hour window there where any IFT placed will take effect at the close on the next business day when the TSP is open. The two holiday's where it's like this are Columbus Day and Veterans Day (though there is an exception for Veterans Day when 11/11 falls on a Saturday, and Feds get that Friday 11/10 off, in those cases the TSP office remains open and IFTs process normally...that happens about once every 7 years, it happened in 2006 and 2017, and will next occur in 2023).

It is 1010 hours EST Tuesday October 13, 2020. On tsp.gov I just changed my pending IFT from 'I" to 'C'. Was also able to change the allocation on the 'other' tsp site. On tspcenter I cannot change my pending IFT?

RE: When was your TSP Center IFT submitted? Ans: After 1200 hours Friday October 9, 2020.

I assume that is why the IFT did not take effect at Friday's close (and this is what I expected). The IFT states it will take effect at COB today, Tuesday (also what I expected), but will not let me change it before 1200 hours today (all times EST).

To clarify. It is not true that tspcenter will not let me make the IFT. It is true that the buttons, text fields (controls) to make the IFT are not available on the web page for me to even attemp to make (modify) the IFT.

REALLY? Must be something the Moderators are fixing. At one point, for the individuals that placed their IFTies after the deadline on 9 Oct, it momentarily stated that their IFT would take affect 12 Oct.

I haven't even touched it yet. All allocation changes that were made on 10/12 will be changed to 10/13. Then we'll move forward, I don't plan on doing any more than that.

It is likely a half-implemented holiday solution. King had his code, and I introduced a lot of mine, and what we have now is kind of a grab bag solution that's holding on until the new tspcenter.
