Help Enact "Connor's Law"
Folks,
I've been hanging around here for a long time. Love the back-and-forth banter, investment training, knowledge-swapping, and the general comradery (even of differing opinions). Never went public with this but now we need your help.
In 2017, my 19-year old nephew "Connor" was killed on I-95 in North Florida by a non-English proficient (couldn't read, write, or speak English) commercial trucker while the kid was stopped behind an accident caused by ANOTHER unlicensed commercial trucker. Semi-truck doing 71 mph vs. non-moving 2-door compact car and it was game-over. The commercial driver who flattened my nephew fled the scene on foot and has never been located. It is believed he fled to his native Pakistan...so yeah...no one is going after him.
Without getting all into the weeds of the case/legislation/fallout (so I don't get banned for "politics")...this "English Proficiency Requirement Rule" was already on the books but not being enforced because of the lackadaisical attitude of previous Administrations. The passage of this legislation will result in the "rule" becoming "codified law" and these illegal drivers WILL be placed out of service. This legislation is RIGHT, should have been enforced all along, AND it makes our highways safer for EVERYONE.
My sister has been working night and day for years to see "Connor's Law" passed. She has created a support group for parents of kids killed in their youth, she has been all over the news, and she has even purchased and donated specially equipped vehicles to parents of kids with disabilities who couldn't afford to purchase the transport on their own accord. I hate it for her, that she has been forced to cope with the loss of her son through these mechanisms, but she has a solid heart and gives exponentially more than she takes.
Me...well...TSP Center, and to some extent the OTHER TSP Site (that we don't talk about here), is the full extent of my social media presence. Putting this "out there" and asking for some help from the TSP Center community is about all I can do for the cause.
We have a circulating petition (and legislation already on the floor in the House of Reps in D.C) to codify the "rule" into "law." The petition has garnered over 5,000 signatures and 7 Congressional Co-Sponsors, but we need to keep pushing ahead and see this to fruition. If you can't read, write, or speak English, you shouldn't be driving a 70,000-pound missile on our roadways. Further, subsequent investigations following the the death of my nephew unveiled rampant cheating on CDL exams using Translator ear-pods, hidden button cams etc. Drivers of this nature are referred to as "Steering Wheel Holders" and should not hold a CDL license, let alone be on the road. Can you imagine this happening on FAA exams??
From me, my sister, and my family >>> Thank you for your support and let's keep pushing this thing through. Signing this petition doesn't require anything but a few minutes, an email address, and a signature. Thank you again if you can find the time to do this!

Admin note: Moved from the "TSP and Market Discussion" section to the "Life After TSP" section. The "Anything Goes" section is still closed, so I think that section is the most appropriate location.

No worries....I probably should have done that to begin with.
