Wasn't that interesting? So Greek-like. But then again Vancouver is a tad different from the rest of Canada, and proud of it. Then again, the way Vancouver played I can't blame them for rioting. The Bruins' defensive moves were textbook, and their goals amazing. I think Vancouver expected a lot more from their team. Speaking of which, no barb wire atop that Southern fence? How are you going to keep out the sappers? As an old dairy farmer I can tell you there's nothing like a barb wire fence to keep critters out. Shouldn't be that expensive......

Jahb, to go back to your just kidding entry. Last year there was a fascinating article in the Atlantic magazine about the difficulty of applying morality to a combat situation in which one of the combatants is sitting in an air conditioned trailer while the other is toiling along on a hot dusty desert road. The theme was the inverse relationship between distance and mercy as the combatants are further and further seperated from one another. Their conclusion was that at some point anyone in the world becomes fair game, and the need to apply caution toward that situation becoming reality. After all, we are not the only country with air conditioned trailers and RPVs. Now if we could just make it look like a 25 pound meteorite hit that dude smack dab in the back pocket, why, nobody would know what was going on, right?

I see the concept of Democracy and what it means to live in a Free Society have come a long way in American thinking the past few years. Makes one wonder if the Chinese feel freer than us and not as scared of being meteorited.

Navig8tor, Yeah I think your right on the money,but........I think the things you list that you don't want to see happen will be what happens. The reality is that they always cut the people and not the systems. That's because the military has to do what it's told without complaint and the people in the Defense industries have bought and paid for their Congress.

Not entirely. The military has again done its mission: to train and to fight. Now that the Middle East whatever-you-choose-to-call-it thingie is winding down, and the Obama administration is being taken to task for the incursion into sovereign Libyan land, troops will begin coming home. And just like in Viet Nam where the North Vietnamese turned the tide of war by ceasing to fight and causing American forces to chafe at the nonproductivity of their war effort, we will release/RIF valiant warriors from their berths and posts. We know their strengths, their skills, their unflinching loyalty to America and its defense. But folks, it comes down to the fact we don't need as big a military force when there is no enemy to fight. Reductions in Force are not pretty and not fair. But they are necessary, especially with such a terrible national debt level imposed on all of us. The military will continue to maintain its ability to train required warriors to defend us against new foes. Until then we have the responsibility at the cost of losing these wonderful soldiers to continue to develop and perfect new weapon systems so the future newly trained troops will have the appropriate arms to go into battle. And so I maintain my stance that we must continue our technological advance at the expense of returning these fine comrades-in-arm to the civilian side of the nation where their skills, stories, and desire to live the American Dream will continue to reflect great credit upon themselves and the United States of America. Bring on the techies and strengthen the internet from cyber attacks. That would be money well spent.
