Extending this cut supports further unraveling of the SS trust fund, which this tax holiday has contributed to. Before you know it upper middle class retirees will have means testing, taking away far more than the meager benefit provided. There are better ways to stimulate the economy than by reducing taxes in an obviously underfunded area. People are being set up by congress and the 1% and don't even realize it.

I totally agree. I realize that they want to accelerate the failure. Why wait for it to fail in 15 or 25 years, when it can be done in the more immediate future.
If one puts in a temporary tax cut and then it expires, should that be considered a tax hike :?:

The republican leadership [not most non-Washington Republicans] think so for the payroll taxes but not for the Bush tax cuts.

It is interesting that I have not heard of anyone stating that when the the Soc Sec was inaugurated, the tax rates for the rich were > 75%, but then Reagan came into office and lowered tax rates for the rich, over shot the mark, and moved the trust fund into the General treasury fund to pay for the tax cuts, precipitating the S.S. shortfall. Then to save it [which they had injured], they had to raise the retirement age, etc.
Seek Wisdom where it can be found.

Wasn't it close to like 90% at one point?

I think it was 92% during the Eisenhower-era.
