Re: Brokers
I chose Schwab for a sentimental reason: that is who my dad used. However, their stock trades cost $8.95, no restrictions on the number of times you must trade to get that price, and they have low cost ETFs that you can buy and sell for no trade cost. The ETFs include some similar to the TSP funds, of course, but also offer some additional options like REIT and value ETFs.
Re: Brokers
Fidelity. No good reason. Started with them and stayed with them.
Re: Brokers
Etrade - too expensive ($7.99-$9.99 plus $.75 per option contracts), but I started with them for more than a decade and know their tools very well.

Re: Brokers
I have been with TDAmeritrade forever, but recently transferred over to Scottrade.
The $9.99 per trade to $7 was just too much to turn down.

Re: Brokers
TDAmeritrade - by far the best internet interface & research tools (started with them when they were "Waterhouse")
I also use Scottrade for one account
In the past I have used Schwab, Legg Mason (that became Citi/Smith Barney Morgan Stanley), Ferris Baker Watts (that became RBC) and another one that I have forgotten

Re: Brokers
I can compare Etrade and Fidelity and imo, Etrade has much better research tools and better customer service (Fidelity customer service is not bad though). That being said, Fidelity has cheaper commissions thus I do most of my research with my Etrade account and trade with Fidelity. Etrade also added a number of etf's that trade for free, much more than Fidelity offers now. I've heard for high volume traders that TradeKing is the way to go but I don't trade enough that it matters all too much. Like Jay says, I've never heard a bad thing about TD Ameritrade either.
Re: Brokers
I use Just2Trade. Very basic services but at $2.50 a trade, need I say more?

I use optionshouse almost exlusively now, ditched Fidelity they were terrible compared to what you get at Optionshouse for traders. Fidelity research info is ok I guess but almost all research is BS... cant trust analysts.

Re: Brokers
I was with HarrisDirect then Etrade acquired them us I have stayed with them. My wife says don't change because when people ask her who I trade with she can never remember the name but always says the one with the talking baby. I do get fast trades and cust service is always good.
