Monthly Dividend Paying ETFs

Post by Sig »

I’ve been retired since 2018, but I still make fantasy IFTs and I’m still in the top 20 on the leader board. I’ve come across ETFs that pay a monthly dividend, some of which only have been out since January of this year. They are the Tidal Trust II YIELDMAX Option Income Strategy ETFs. I’ve put $180,000.00 into these since late May and have collected over $25K in dividends. I am reinvesting half the dividend income back into the ETFs and banking the other half. This will be a long-term hold.
Consider owning 1000 or more shares of each of TSLY, MSTY, MARO, CRSH and CONY in your IRA or regular account. See what your monthly total dividend would be. Also look at ULTY that pays a weekly dividend. Use Marketchameleon to find the ex-date, pay date, and the dividend. Here is the link for MSTY:

You can't have your cake? and eat it too? hehe. Maybe you can? 1.28% expense ration and growth is capped but loses are not. hmm.

I am not sophisticated enough to understand these. But like with all stocks, there is risk and no guarantee of returns.

"the Fund’s indirect exposure to gains, if any, of the share price returns of the Underlying Securities is capped. However, the Fund is subject to all potential losses if the shares of the Underlying Securities decrease in value, which may not be offset by income received by the Fund."
I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.

I’m glad you are doing your due diligence. I put this out as a possible way to generate monthly income. It may not be for everyone. This is what made me decide to go this route.
I own 1000 shares of Apple and get a $250.00 dividend every three months. I got $5,179.70 dividend income in the last 3 months from 1000 shares of MSTY. I own the ETFs listed, and they paid over $10K for the month of June. I am reinvesting half the dividend income back into the ETFs and banking the other half. This will be a long-term hold. I will hold these as long as they continue to have good dividend returns.

If you read my post on July 9 and did research at Market Chameleon, you would have found that MARO had an ex-dividend date of 17-Jul-2025 and a pay date of 18-Jul-2025. Then had you bought 1000 shares of MARO on Monday or Tuesday you would have collected a $2,371.80 dividend today July 18, 2025. Now look up CONY and MSTY.

Thank you for the ETF ideas. Did you ever consider buying JEPQ?

JEPQ tracks the Nasdaq and therefore stable as compared to FEAT, a similar ETF which has only been out since January of this year. FEAT has consistently paid a dividend at least twice that of JEPQ since January 2025. Also, in the comparison below FEAT is generating more income for less money invested. JEPQ could be a good addition to the mix to diversify from just the YieldMax basket of ETFs. A steady monthly income is a good thing no matter where it comes from.

Symbol Name Price Shares Dividend Date Indicative Yield Dividend Pay
FEAT YieldMax Dorsey Wright Featured 5 Income ETF $36.47 1000 1.4445 7-Aug-25 47.53% $1,444.50
JEPQ JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF $54.80 1000 0.4942 1-Aug-25 10.82% $494.20

Here is the dividend income ETFS, TSLY, MSTY, MARO, CRSH and CONY generated for the month of July. One thousand shares of each of those ETFs at today’s prices would be around $63,000.00 for all five. So, is this worth it? Considering that 1000 shares of Apple at a cost over $200,000.00 only generates a $250.00 dividend every 3 months, the monthly income the 5 ETFs are generating is amazing.

Symbol Name Shares Dividend Date Dividend Pay
MSTY YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF 1000 1.2382 3-Jul-25 $1,238.20
CRSH YieldMax Short TSLA Option Income ETF 1000 0.2156 10-Jul-25 $215.60
TSLY YieldMax TSLA Option Income Strategy ETF 1000 0.3873 10-Jul-25 $387.30
MARO YieldMax MARA Option Income Strategy ETF 1000 2.3718 17-Jul-25 $2,371.80
CONY YieldMax COIN Option Income Strategy ETF 1000 0.7951 24-Jul-25 $795.10
Total $5,008.00

Dividends are a beautiful thing....I'm looking at doing the same as I move closer to retirement...Mostly to help pad my TSP balance due to a late start with matching and what not. (retired Military and didn't get matched in my military TSP)

I did open a mutual fund window (MFW) account with my TSP and have been invested in BTCFX which has a current yield of 22.27% that I've just been letting re-invest those dividends! I don't know how long that fund will continue at that rate of yield so I've been looking for other avenues through the MFW. My front runners as of right now are LSYTX with a current yield of 8.24% and PHYSX with a current yield of 7.94%...I'm not having any luck finding other high yield mutual funds that are 1.) available through MFW 2.) have a lower or no minimum investment requirement and 3.) have yields at 10% or more that pay monthly.

Anyone have any leads?

Thanks yall! and Cheers TSP investors!
Cheers!

Current Strat: Loosely following 152300 and 85660 more the former rather than the later
Current PIP: 24.04

Looking at marketchameleon.com for these ETFs...the NAV price has dropped significantly since the beginning of the year. In saying that, is the hope that the DIV continues to pay out monthly at a high rate of return and not be too concerned about the NAV? If you were to plan on cashing out though it would be a concern. Don't really understand the underlying approach to this as it seems to be tied to options. This seems to be a high risk of losing all of your principle value at some point in time. Am I reading this wrong? Looks like a great way to provide extra income if the parameters hold. Just looking for some reassurance in risk posture for this investment??

If I was reassured that what I am doing had no risk I would set it and forget it. ETFs tend to minimize risk. Some like the SPY hold the S & P 500 stocks. So, if you want less risk go with the SPY or SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust DIA, both very stable.

I initially said that these are fairly new ETFs and it does look like they are “looking for” a stable dividend payout. But in looking at the dividend history, the dividend paid somewhat related to the price of the ETF. So as in all things market related, there are up and down swings. In terms of minimizing my principal risk, I am reinvesting the dividends. So, as the price falls, I am cost averaging. I do have 8 ETFs so I am somewhat diversified. And “if” the dividends continue the way they have, the total dividend income for the next 12 months will cover the initial cost of all 8 ETFs. So, I don’t plan on cashing out for a long time. As I pointed out in the July 25 post above, the cost of the five (example) ETFs was $63,000.00 and the dividend payout for July was $5008.00. If we go with a WAG and say that the next 12 months will produce about the same results, then we should have pocketed $60,096.00 in dividends. I’ll check back in 12 months and see what the real return will be. Good luck with your investments.
Lastly: YieldMax ETFs are designed to generate monthly income through options-based strategies. They primarily invest in call options and U.S. Treasury Bills, which make up a significant portion of their assets. This structure allows them to provide income without directly owning the underlying stocks.
