Tracking the G fund

Post by sludg »

Is there a way to track the daily progress of the G fund? I know there is no ticker symbol for it but is there a website i can see it's daily progress as the market closes or is it just best to wait until the daily update happens on here and see the move at that time?

sludg, don't waste your time tracking the G fund. Instead track member AZN... click on leaderboard by account balance; AZN is first. This member has not had a negative return for any allocation adjustment since 2009. Make sure you check the box to get e-mail notifications of when AZN makes an allocation change and click save at the bottom. Good luck!

Thanks Gman

@Bandit - I wasn't asking for the purpose of monitoring anyone elses ITF's as I already have a nice sized watch list. The reason I was asking is to track each fund throughout the day rather than waiting until the end of the day when this website gets updated.

Am I reading this correctly? AZN is listed as -0.45% for 2011...

AZN isn't the G Fund. The G Fund are Treasuries specially issued to TSP. The security is therefore not traded on the open market. The G Fund will never lose any value which guaranteed my the government.

Yes, that is correct.

Each IFT gain doesn't mean this person gain during 2011. Go to the individual name and select the time frame, then the chart will show you.

AZN sat in the C and S fund forever so total he took a gain but for the entire year he took a loss. This will happen to anyone if you sit in a fund long enough you will make money. Only difference is ITFing to other funds will tend to make you more faster if timed correctly.

sludg - Apologize for misunderstanding your original question, glad Gman was able to answer. And yes I agree that AZN sat in C/S forever in 2011 resulting in a -0.45% for the year… a few of us in this thread were able to better that – wish I had. I was actually referring to their allocation history which is totally opposite of mine and its red numbers. With a balance of $205K the person must be doing something right and I think is an account worth watching. Best of trading to you!

I believe the G fund rate is set based on what the 10 year US treasury on the last trading day of the previous month. This web site: https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/US10Y is good to see what the yield is on a daily basis but the rate that maters is what it is on that last trading day...that sets the rate for the following month. I have been tracking it this way for several months and it seems to lineup well.

Sludg, I can tell you G fund Moves 0.01%/calendar day. That's why you see it up 0.03 every Monday, and 0.01 other weekdays.
