You know you're a Geezer-in-Waiting when:

a.) AARP sends you recruitment mailings, but you don't yet qualify for the senior discount at Roy Rogers.

I say you know you are old when you go to bed feeling good and wake up with pains.
I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.

Any advice for those of us for whom 80 is still on the other side of 45 (even if just barely, as in my case)?

1. Make a daily habit of stretching, especially your back. Before you leave your bed if possible. Otherwise, before you do anything physical. Definitely before settling into your car or at a desk for an extended period of time.
I began this practice more than two decades ago, when I was playing golf irregularly and my back hurt after 9 holes. I eventually realized that I almost never threw out my back when reaching beyond my grasp – except when I failed to take one minute that morning to stretch.

2. Focus more on growing your TSP than increasing your high-3. At some point, a good day for the market (e.g. yesterday) will increase your nest egg more than an entire year of government matching. Consider whether a promotion to the next higher pay grade is worth the additional stress. If the position assumes extra unpaid hours, your effective hourly rate may be less than as a worker bee.

I second these points!! Totally agree with these two. I would only add to schedule regular therapeutic massages from a certified massage therapist - ideally 1/week! Regular therapeutic massages will reduce your inflammation and improve your muscle tone and joints to reduce injuries.
